Comedian Chris Rock courted controversy in this week’s opening monologue of “Saturday Night Live,” making jokes about Americans’ stress levels in the wake of the Boston Bombing and the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11.
“Tomorrow’s the New York City Marathon,” Rock told the audience. “Yeah, scary, you know, what could go wrong there, right?”
The former “SNL” cast member said that New Yorkers have reason to be on edge after the April 2013 violence in Boston.
“That Boston Marathon thing was scary,” he continued. “Just think about it: Twenty-six miles… Twenty six miles is a long drive.”
“Twenty six miles… You finally get to the finish line and someone screams: RUN!”
Rock assured the audience that Boston “bounced back,” just like New York after 9/11. But he returned to poking fun at Americans’ anxiety in the aftermath of the attacks.
“I am never going in the Freedom Tower, man,” the comedian said.
“In the same spot? They put another skyscraper in the same spot? What kind of arrogant Floyd Mayweather crap is this?”

I think Chris was right on the money. I like hearing a comic speak the truth. No sugar coating here.
Remember Bill Hicks?
I see comedy. Where is the controversy? The part about the “same spot??” is funny, like when he joked about Michael Jackson with “another kid??”. One of the great stand-up comedians of all time.
Yeah on the Freedom Tower and its susceptibility to another attack, it’s something that everyone’s probably thought about privately, so why not?
I missed Rocks segment, but I did see Prince perform, and to say he was awesome is a major understatement.
