Democrats advocating to begin impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump see Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s testimony this week as their last chance to add gas to the fire before the lengthy summer recess begins.
According to Politico, more moderate Democrats are hoping that Mueller will merely add more details to the corrupt Trump narrative, dinging his reputation and endangering his 2020 standing.
It’s not at all certain that the special counsel will do either. Despite the rigorous preparation on both sides to curate the most damaging lines of questioning, Mueller has stated in no uncertain terms that he will not stray from the confines of his report.
Democrats are planning to emphasize the most damning portions of those findings in the hopes that most Americans who haven’t read the report will react to Trump’s alleged obstruction.
Republicans, meanwhile, are hoping to undermine Mueller’s work and question his motives.
Amazingly Nancy Pelosi hasn’t stepped in and shut down the hearings. Obviously not everyone on Trump’s reelection campaign got the memo.
“Despite the rigorous preparation on both sides to curate the most damaging lines of questioning, Mueller has stated in no uncertain terms that he will not stray from the confines of his report.”
It bears repeating here that, even if–as is likely–Mueller does not reveal any new lines of questioning or culpability, there is roughly zero down-side to this testimony. Let’s don’t get our hopes up, and let’s remember that discussion of Trump obstruction and other culpability, front and center, is central to his defeat.
Strap up, folks–eyes on the prize.
If they (Dems) ask the right questions and ask them the right way, they could make Wednesday a very bad day for Two Scoops. They can’t bungle it. Critical.
Mueller needs to explain why his investigation stopped just when he had requested funding for many more months .
2 days before the recess so it fades from memory before labor day.
