While defending his comments bashing “New York values” to Bill O’Reilly, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and the Fox News host engaged in a heated debate over Donald Trump’s past contributions to Democrats’ campaigns.
Cruz lamented that there’s no room for those who are pro-life and believe in “traditional marriage” in New York. O’Reilly then argued that Trump “doesn’t subscribe to any of that.”
“Of course he does. He funded it,” Cruz hit back.
O’Reilly argued that Trump only donated to Democratic campaigns “as a businessman.” Cruz replied by noting that Trump contributed to Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.
“He didn’t have to do that to build — to do any real estate,” Cruz said.
“You know how they play the game here,” O’Reilly replied before assuring Cruz that he’s “more conservative than Trump.”
“Bill, it’s actually not a question of being more conservative or not. If you’re fed up with the corruption of Washington, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are flip sides of the same coin,” Cruz said in response.
Finally, when Cruz said that Trump is “responsible for the policies he’s supported,” O’Reilly said, “I’m not buying it.”
“I know! You defend him a lot, Bill,” Cruz responded.
