While discussing Donald Trump’s “pussy” comments at a New Hampshire rally, CNN host Carol Costello on Tuesday danced around the word without actually saying it on air.
“And what about what Donald Trump said? You know that word, that P-word that no one can say on television but you often hear in porno flicks,” she said on CNN’s “Newsroom.”
MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell also avoided the word when asking Trump about his comment during a Tuesday morning interview on “Morning Joe.”
“What was going through your mind when that woman shouted a word out and you went with it?” Mitchell asked Trump.
The Republican presidential candidate seemed unfazed by his word choice.
“We were all just having fun. It was a great moment,” he responded, adding later that the rest of the crowd could not hear the initial insult and that he was “doing everybody a favor” by repeating it.
ummmm… she’s speaking from personal experience?
This is an ongoing immaturity in our culture in general, how we can’t talk about sex or anything even related to sex (like certain organs in the body) without laughing or giggling or becoming uncomfortable, manifesting itself in this case in our ‘popular’ media (I know, CNN isn’t exactly popular).
I remember back when everyone was talking about Anthony Weiner, and I was watching a local news broadcast somewhere and the female anchor used the word “privates” to talk about the man taking pictures of his junk. And the way she said it, you could tell she was obviously uncomfortable even using that euphemism.
I want to tell these people loudly and clearly that there is a perfectly valid, scientifically accurate and adult word they can use, and that word is “genitals.” Almost no children will watch a broadcast or cable news show, and if they tune in and hear an adult use the word “genitals,” then they probably won’t even know what it means. So seriously news anchors, you can just say the word genitals and we’ll all be all right. You don’t have to be uncomfortable about it. It’s no different than talking about your spleen or your lungs, they’re just parts of your body, parts we all have.
You bunch of pussies! Just say genitals and be done with it.
As a pedant this makes me especially irritated. “Pussy” in the sense of “wimp” is shortened from “pussycat” (from which the genital term is separately derived, based on appearance) and shouldn’t be considered vulgar. But of course Trump & co. are also thinking of it in that way, so it’s pretty much a lost cause at this point.
Just so its clear, today’s Trump conversation is now about pussy. Though it wasn’t about that originally, Donald Trump has now changed the conversation about himself again and he’s done it with the media’s assistance.
well done.
oy vey
Plant woman to scream “pussy” so it’s “ok.”
MSM goes nuts.
Profit.
