An article published last night in the Post captures a lot of the problems MSM/bothsidesist journalism faces in the age of the Trump. Headline: “Trump’s plan to send migrant detainees to sanctuary cities draws concerns about cost, legality.”
There are several levels of problem here. The most obvious is that a crazy and almost certainly illegal threat – using immigrants families as pawns/weapons to seek retribution against political enemies – is transmuted into a controversial policy proposal with budgetary and legal challenges. I read the piece. The articles itself is not much better than the headline.
Another slightly more subtle problem is calling it a “plan”. The articles refers to it as a “plan” or “proposal”. But there’s really no evidence that it is more of a Twitter threat and before that a juvenile idea ginned up by Trump’s policy advisor Stephen Miller and quickly shot down by appointees.
