Pope Francis met with retired Pope Benedict XVI over lunch on Saturday where they prayed together and the former pope recognized the new authority of his successor over the Catholic Church. The two spoke privately for about 45 minutes. Benedict was the first Pope to resign in 600 years, making the meeting of two popes extremely unusual.
