Sen. Kay Hagan’s (D-NC) re-election campaign released its first attack ad of the cycle, which hits state House Speaker Thom Tillis (R), running in the GOP Senate primary, for giving “golden parachutes” to two former staffers involved in a sex scandal.

The radio ad follows the pro-Democratic Senate Majority PAC also attacking Tillis’ handling of the affair.

The ad focuses on a 2012 scandal in which two Tillis staffers were found to be having had extramarital affairs with lobbyists. The staffers were given $19,000 in severance pay when they resigned.

“Our tax dollars, bailing out the indiscretions of Thom Tillis’s staff,” the narrator in the ad said. “Those may be values, but they’re not North Carolina’s.”
