UNITED NATIONS (AP) — Iran’s president says U.S. sanctions against his country amount to “economic terrorism” that won’t sway Iran.

Iran’s Hassan Rouhani told world leaders at the General Assembly on Tuesday that the sanctions amount to an “economic war” that’s disrupting trade and will harm people beyond Iran.

U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration has reinstated sanctions on Iran after pulling out the U.S. of the multinational 2015 nuclear deal with Iran. Trump says the deal was a “horrible” agreement that didn’t do enough to contain “aggression” from Iran.

In remarks earlier Tuesday, Trump predicted that the pressure from renewed sanctions would force Iran back to the table to negotiate.

But Rouhani noted that Iranians has endured sanctions before and “can overcome this difficult phase as well.”

  1. Just wait until John Bolton’s speech later today:

“According to the mullahs in Tehran, we are ‘the Great Satan,’ lord of the underworld, master of the raging inferno. So, I might imagine they would take me seriously when I assure them today: If you cross us, our allies, or our partners; if you harm our citizens; if you continue to lie, cheat, and deceive, yes, there will indeed be HELL to PAY.”
“The Iran Deal was the worst diplomatic debacle in American history. It did nothing to address the regime’s destabilizing activities or its ballistic missile development and proliferation. Worst of all, the deal failed in its fundamental objective: permanently denying Iran all paths to a nuclear bomb.”
“The ayatollahs have a choice to make. We have laid out a path toward a bright and prosperous future for all of Iran, one that is worthy of the Iranian people, who have long suffered under the regime’s tyrannical rule.”
“The United States is not naïve. We will not be duped, cheated, or intimidated. The days of impunity for Tehran and its enablers are over. The murderous regime and its supporters will face significant consequences if they do not change their behavior. Let my message today be clear: We are watching, and we will come after you.”

America is just aching for another war…

  2. Yet no one laughed at his speech; I wonder why.

  3. … while We The People of the USA prepare for the inevitable revolutionary war to depose this government. Washington, DC will not be able to handle external and internal war. Implosion and disintegration of the nation is on the horizon, to be finalized when the country breaks up into separate nations. This is the path taken by the Allied Powers at Yalta after WW II: break up the Wehrmacht into 5 separate entities such that they can never again aggregate for WW III. Same policy to be implemented here in the USA soon, except the USA’s people will break up the nation on their own, with no international involvement. A good vision of this near future of the USA is described in Greer’s excellent book “Twilight’s Last Gleaming”.

WTF How can you negotiate with a liar who changes his mind at the drop of a hat

  5. Brent crude spiked to a shade over eighty two dollars a barrel this morning after a big move yesterday. I believe that Iran stating they held the Saudis, UAE, Israel and America accountable for the parade deaths is behind the move.

    Bolton:

It was not supposed to permanently prevent any such thing. It was designed to slow their nuclear bomb making capabilities down for ten years. By then, we were supposed to all be ready to hold hands and sing kumbaya or something.
