House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) attempted to spin former Rep. Beto O’Rourke’s 2020 announcement into an attack on Democrats on Thursday by questioning how the rising political star became so popular.

When asked on “Fox and Friends” for reaction to O’Rourke’s presidential bid, McCarthy might as well have invoked the “I don’t know her” meme.

“He served in the House and I served with him, but to be honest, I can’t remember one speech that he gave on the floor or one bill that he passed,” he said. “It’s remarkable that his rise, that he’s now running for president because I can’t remember something he’s done in the House and he just lost a race for the Senate, so the Democratic that means you’re capable or really the person who should run for president.”
