While his Republican colleague Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) has threatened to stonewall any votes on conservative judges until Congress takes up legislation to protect special counsel Robert Mueller, Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) thinks the action is unnecessary.

Despite President Trump’s constant Twitter raging about the Russia probe, Kennedy thinks Trump is “too smart” to oust Mueller.

“I don’t believe that President Trump — he’s too smart to fire Mr. Mueller,” he told CNN Thursday. “I don’t think Mr. Mueller should be fired. … I know of no overt steps to interfere with Mr. Mueller, not should there be, or to impede his investigation. Looks to me like Mr. Mueller is moving along now at a very rapid pace.”

Trump prompted bipartisan alarm when he fired his attorney general last month and replaced him with an acting AG who has been openly critical of the Russia probe.
