Supreme Court Associate Justice Sonia Sotomayor will administer the oath of office for Vice President Joe Biden at this month’s inauguration, the Presidential Inaugural Committee anounced Friday.
President Barack Obama will be sworn in by Chief Justice John Roberts. It’s custom for the court’s chief justice to administer the president’s oath.
Sotomayor was nominated by Obama in 2009 to replace retired Justice David Souter. The official swearing-in will take place Sunday, Jan. 21 while the ceremonial swearing-in will be held the next day.
