NBC Host To Rubio: How Are Cruz’s Flip Flops On Immigration Worse Than Yours?

NBC host Chuck Todd pressed Republican presidential candidate Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) in an interview aired Sunday on immigration and asked him why rival Sen. Ted Cruz’s flip flops on the issue were worse than his own.

Rubio has criticized Cruz’s changing opinions on the topic, calling his immigration record “inconsistent.” Rubio himself once supported a massive effort to reform immigration, but went back on it and said that one big piece of legislation to tackle the topic “doesn’t work.”

Todd asked Rubio why Cruz’s flip flips were worse than his own.

“Well,
first of all let me say that if circumstances change or you learn
something along the way, it’s reasonable to say, ‘Maybe a different
approach will work better.’ So for example, on
immigration it is clear no comprehensive solution to immigration is
going to pass,” Rubio replied.

“But don’t go around pretending that you never do, and certainly don’t go
around pretending and telling everyone like Ted Cruz does that he is the
only consistent conservative running for president,” he continued. “The fact of the matter is that Ted has shown a propensity throughout his career in the U.S. Senate to take one position in front of one audience and then change his position in front of another.”

  1. What a bunch of horseshit. This clown is up with ads all over the TV claiming he’s strong and a leader. Accepting that premise as true for just a moment, he’s now saying that he switched his position on immigration reform, not because it was the right thing or that he encountered new facts that said it was a bad idea, but rather simple and solely because it would not pass.

That is to say that he refused to take a principled stance on an issue and try to LEAD people to his side, but rather could not afford to be seen as supporting an idea that didn’t pass. That’s not strength, that’s cowardice.

Rubio is a clown and his flop on immigration reform exposes just how weak he really is.

I think he backed down from a principled stance on immigration and is now back pedaling in order to appeal to the right wing base. He will not get by with this position. He has had one major test and has flopped.

  3. little marco and cruz are both lying sacks of chit.
