Energy Secretary Rick Perry was chosen to be the designated survivor during President Trump’s State of the Union address Tuesday night.

Perry will not attend the address in the Capitol and will succeed Trump if the President and other top government leaders are killed in an attack.

Trump had a short list to choose from Tuesday night, as several cabinet roles are currently filled by acting secretaries who are not eligible to be named the designated survivor.
