Google chairman and former CEO Eric Schmidt will join New Mexico’s Democratic former Governor Bill Richardson on a private trip to North Korea that may take place in January, according to sources cited by the Associated Press.
The trip would be the first of its kind to the isolated authoritarian nation by any Google executive, according to the report, which also goes on to note that North Korea’s new young leader, Kim Jong Un, has stated his intent to embark on a modernization effort that includes computers, but not necessarily Internet nor Google, in every North Korean school.
