Newt Gingrich was asked about his statements that if anyone was going to jail for the real estate financial collapse, it should be Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA) and former Sen. Chris Dodd (D-CT) for their work with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac — but Gingrich himself was a consultant for Freddie Mac, and in the past he had stated his support for government-sponsored enterprises.

Gingrich explained that Frank and Dodd were directly in government, and he accused them of abusing their power in financial dealings. By contrast, Gingrich maintained, he was himself in the private sector, and not abusing power.
