Joe Manchin (D-WV) released a campaign ad Thursday featuring endorsements from three big names in sports: Jerry West, NBA hall-of-famer (and West Virginia University alumnus); Bob Huggins, current West Virginia University basketball head coach; and Nick Saban, head football coach at the University of Alabama. An ad like this works really well in this region of the country. WVU is in the Big 12, so Saban’s presence probably doesn’t ruffle many feathers. Huggins definitely helps. It’s kind of an ode to manly men who play the sports ball. Plus, it’s a positive ad which, at this stage of the campaign, probably means Manchin is feeling really good about his chances. I like it.
