Liberal talker Ed Schultz is splitting with many on his side of the ideological aisle and calling on the left to back off Rush Limbaugh’s advertisers. The Huffington Post reports:

[A]t the Talkers New Media Seminar on June 7 in New York City, Schultz broke with the progressive community and criticized it for going after Limbaugh. ‘If we start attacking advertisers because of what somebody said — it’s the wrong thing to do,’ he said, according to video of the event. Schultz told the audience that he called Media Matters founder David Brock and expressed his displeasure with the fact that his group was going after Limbaugh’s advertisers earlier in the year, demanding they drop the right-wing radio host over his controversial comments about Sandra Fluke. ‘I said, ‘David, this is Ed Schultz. I need you to know what’s happening. This is what’s happening. There’s a lot of people getting hurt. This is going to too far. It’s my opinion, you can take it for what it’s worth.”…Schultz was concerned that other talk radio hosts would be collateral damage in what was supposed to be a precision strike on Limbaugh.

HuffPo reports advertisers have fled talk radio across the board after the Limbaugh controversy. Groups like Media Matters revelled in the advertisers dropping Limbaugh’s show after pressure from the left. Schultz was caught up in his own firestorm after calling a fellow radio hose a “right wing slut” on air in 2011, a remark he apologized for.
