Real estate mogul Donald Trump said late Thursday in response to a question from NBC News that he “would certainly implement” a database that would register U.S. Muslims if he were President.

The Republican presidential candidate was first asked about the possibility of registering Muslims in some sort of database in an interview with Yahoo! News. Trump said in that interview that after the most recent terror attacks in Paris, the U.S. would “have to do things that we never did before” to keep tabs on American Muslims with the aim of combating “radical Islamic terrorism.” He has also repeatedly suggested closing the nation’s mosques in recent days.

“Should there be a database system that tracks Muslims here in this country?” an NBC News reporter asked Trump at an event in Newton, Iowa.

“There should be a lot of systems beyond databases,” the billionaire responded. “We should have a lot of systems.”

“But that’s something your White House would like to implement?” the reporter pressed.

“Oh, I would certainly implement that. Absolutely,” Trump said.

When a reporter later asked Trump if he thought there was a difference between tracking American Muslims in a database and Nazi Germany registering Jews, the billionaire responded: “You tell me.”
