Rep. Mike Honda (D-CA), the DNC vice-chair, said that he is proud to stand with Big Bird and PBS in a statement Thursday, responding to Mitt Romney’s promise to cut funding to PBS during Wednesday night’s debate. Honda also used the opportunity to knock Mitt Romney on his taxes: “What he receives in tax breaks in one year is probably enough to support Big Bird, Elmo, and the whole Sesame Street gang.”
“If Mitt Romney thinks killing off Big Bird and his friends is going to make any meaningful difference in taming our deficit, he’s suffering from another case of fuzzy math. What he receives in tax breaks in one year is probably enough to support Big Bird, Elmo, and the whole Sesame Street gang.
“Sesame Street and other important programming on PBS educate and entertain our children, contribute to our culture, and impartially inform our public debates. I’m proud to stand with PBS and fight for their cause.”
