A deputy Cook County sheriff was hospitalized on Thursday after accidentally shooting himself in the foot. 

DNA Info Chicago reported that around 3 p.m., there was an accidental discharge of the deputy’s firearm, Cook County Sheriff Department spokesman Ben Breit said.

The deputy suffered a gunshot wound to the foot and was taken to the hospital as a precaution. 

According to the Chicago Tribune, the deputy sheriff was taken to Mount Sinai hospital. 

Immediate reports about the accidental service weapon discharge did not include specifics about the deputy sheriff’s name, age, or time of service with the Cook County Sheriff’s department.
