Sen. Chuck Shcumer (D-NY) went a few miles off course this week when he tried to take a shot at embattled Toronto Mayor Rob Ford.
At a news conference on Monday, the senator apparently tried to mock the crack smoking Canadian mayor but misspoke and ended up taking a jab at New York Lt. Gov. Bob Duffy (D-NY).
The gaffe happened when reporters asked Schumer why he hadn’t attended an economic conference Monday in Toronto, where Duffy was in attendance.
“If Bob Duffy was there, I’m glad I wasn’t,” Schumer said, according to the Buffalo News newspaper.
Aftwerwards, the newspaper reported, Schumer’s office said the senator had “misspoken and meant to say Rob Ford.”
