“Assume deer dead” is the political meme that will never die — as long as Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) keeps tweeting.
Iowa’s senior senator notified his Twitter followers on Wednesday about his family’s latest brush with the animal, noting that while his daughter Wendy emerged unscathed from a car wreck, but a deer did not:
Just got word that my daughter Wendy totaled car She is ok She hit deer Deer dead. No presumption I’m told

Grassley tweeting about dead deer has become a popular meme over the past few years. It began back in 2012 with this tweet:

The “Fred” Grassley referred to was his regional director Fred Schuster, according to Roll Call. The tweet itself has been held up as the ultimate example of Grassley’s “real” (i.e., not managed by an intern) social media presence.

I remember back when many liberals from his neck of the woods would leap to Chuck Grassley’s defense and swear he was a down the middle straight-shooter just calling them as he saw them whenever you pointed out empirical evidence indicating that he was a hyperpartisan hack and generally sorry excuse for a human being. Then he got a Twitter account.
