Grassley Revives ‘Assume Deer Dead’ Meme — At The Cost Of Another Deer

“Assume deer dead” is the political meme that will never die — as long as Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) keeps tweeting.

Iowa’s senior senator notified his Twitter followers on Wednesday about his family’s latest brush with the animal, noting that while his daughter Wendy emerged unscathed from a car wreck, but a deer did not:

Grassley tweeting about dead deer has become a popular meme over the past few years. It began back in 2012 with this tweet:

The “Fred” Grassley referred to was his regional director Fred Schuster, according to Roll Call. The tweet itself has been held up as the ultimate example of Grassley’s “real” (i.e., not managed by an intern) social media presence.
