Chris Christie applauds during a gathering in Union City, N.J., Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014. A top aide to Christie is linked through emails and text messages to a seemingly deliberate plan to create traffic gridlock in a town at the base of a major bridge after its mayor refused to endorse Christie for re-election. "Time for some traffic problems in Fort Lee," Christie aide Bridget Anne Kelly wrote in an Aug. 13 email to David Wildstein, a top political appointee at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which runs the George Washington Bridge connecting New Jersey and New York City, one of the world's busiest spans. As the investigation into his administration’s role in last September’s lane closures on the George Washington Bridge heats up, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) is taking a fundraising trip to Florida.

The trip will include an event Saturday at the Country Club of Orlando to benefit Florida Gov. Rick Scott (R). Tickets for the fundraiser, where Christie is billed as a “special guest” cost between $1,000 and $2,500.

Christie will also headline fundraisers for Scott in West Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale. Observers have speculated these events will be a key test of whether Christie can retain his status as a rainmaker for Republican candidates nationally in spite of the scandal.

On Thursday, Christie is also scheduled to headline a fundraiser for Republican Jersey congressional candidate Steve Lonegan.
