Dr. Ben Carson referred to Russian President Vladimir Putin as a “one-horse country” during Thursday’s Fox News Republican presidential debate.

Asked how “President Carson” would respond to a hypothetical occupation of Estonia by Russian forces, the retired neurosurgeon said: “We ought to fight them on the economic basis because Putin is a one-horse country, oil and energy. And we ought to fight them on that level.”

Carson also suggested putting armored brigades in “the whole Baltic region,” giving Ukraine offensive weapons and conducting military exercises in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

“They’re terrified by the saber-rattling,” he said.

Carson offered that he’d “absolutely” intervene if Putin “attacked,” and rounded out his plan by suggesting the U.S. help “in terms of the technology for fracking keeping the price low, quite frankly, because that’s what’s keeping him contained.”
