It’s still an open question as to whether Apple is the first firm that coined the phrase “App Store,” and therefore should be able to trademark it. What is not in question however, is the firm’s success in popularizing the concept.
Apple, the world’s most valuable technology company announced Thursday that the users of its mobile products have downloaded more than 15 billion apps.
The apps were downloaded by more than 200 million iPhone, iPod and iPad users in 90 countries, who had more than 425,000 apps to choose from.
Apple said that to date, it has paid developers $2.5 billion.
It is remarkable, and Apple wasn’t shy about pumping up the hyperbole Thursday.
“In just three years, the revolutionary App Store has grown to become the most exciting and successful software marketplace the world has ever seen,” Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing said in a press statement.
