Yet another GOP candidate is making the pilgrimage to Trump Tower in order to seek the blessing of the Donald.
Politico’s Morning Score reported on Thursday that new Republican front runner Newt Gingrich will meet the New York real estate mogul next Monday.
“I can confirm that Mr. Trump and Mr. Gingrich are meeting on Monday at Trump Tower,” Trump spokesman Michael Cohen told CNN. “As to the sum and substance of the conversation to take place, there is no set agenda. I suspect, like the other Republican candidates, Newt will seek Mr. Trump’s advice and endorsement.”
Since declining to run, Trump has been positioning himself as a sort of kingmaker, holding individual meetings with Romney, Perry, Cain, and Bachmann who are all eager to receive his endorsement. Oddly enough, by meeting with Trump, Gingrich solidifies his position as the new frontrunner.
A source “familiar with his thinking” tells Score that Trump wants to make an endorsement during the primary season. “Mr. Trump looks forward to discussing issues and policy points with Speaker Gingrich,” the source said.
There may be more than one reason for the timing of the meeting. Monday also happens to be the publication date for Trump’s new book “Time To Get Tough: Making America #1 Again.”
