Former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson is pushing back on a report that he will leave the Republican presidential race on Thursday and instead seek the nomination of the Libertarian Party.
“I’m considering running for the Libertarian nomination but no decision on that to this point,” Johnson told TPM Wednesday.
Earlier, the Independent Political Report said Johnson would be jumping to the Libertarian ticket this week.
Asked if the report was true, Johnson said flatly “No.” He said he’s “not announcing anything tomorrow.”
Johnson has been running a largely below-the-radar libertarian-themed campaign all along, so a leap to the Libertarian Party would not be much of a stretch. His campaign has been waging war on the GOP for weeks now, accusing the party of freezing him out of debates and, therefore, out of serious contention.
