Stephen Colbert is his own favorite source for accurate, hard-hitting news. But when he occasionally can’t look at himself in the mirror, he turns to Fox News’ Megyn Kelly. But even Kelly sometimes “drops the ball,” Colbert said Thursday.

On Wednesday, during an afternoon segment in Sioux City, Iowa, the Fox News graphics department accidentally ran an image showing President Obama in the place of Mitt Romney. “It’s an easy mistake,” Colbert said, “they have the same popularity among Republicans.”

Kelly was quick to correct the error — an hour later — saying Romney and Obama are not the same “ideologically,” “philosophically,” or any other way.

“Megyn, the correction was nice, but talk is cheap,” Colbert said. “To make it up to Mitt Romney, you’ve got to accidentally put up the wrong picture for every other candidate.” His ideas? Maybe for Rick Perry, George W. Bush as played by Josh Brolin. For Ron Paul, a dried apple. And Michele Bachmann, a startled lemur.
