Call me crazy. But I’m a little surprised that Scott Brown hasn’t been hit with an avalanche of ridicule for his demand that Vicki Kennedy, Ted Kennedy’s widow, not endorse his opponent as a condition of his debating Elizabeth Warren.
Yes, there’s a bit more to Brown’s demand. The debate was to be sponsored by the Edward M. Kennedy Institute and Vicki Kennedy is the president of the Institute. So there’s some notional logic to the demand. But c’mon. In the real world it’s irrelevant to anything to do with the debate. Media organizations would control the questions and the questioners. Brown’s really trying to insist that Kennedy’s widow stay uncommitted for the whole cycle? Why not go all in and ban her from saying who she thinks Teddy would have endorsed? In the gut check reality that most velocity campaigning operates in, that should be enough to make him look small and vaguely ridiculous.
Very curious to hear from folks in Massachusetts about how this is playing.
