Lighting It Up

The Chamber of Commerce is cranking up its election year machinery in a big way, with TV ad buys against Democratic Senate candidates in three states and against independent Charlie Crist in Florida.

Keep in mind though that these buys account for only about $2 million of the $75 million the Chamber has pledged to spend this cycle. Also remember that the Chamber’s specialty is essentially laundering corporate cash — all perfectly legally — for political expenditures. If a Fortune 500 company would rather not damage its brand by taking sides in politics in a public way, the Chamber is a great way to conceal your company’s role while still getting in the game.
