Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) raised $2.27 million in the third fundraising quarter, his strongest fundraising quarter so far, according to the Lexington Herald-Leader.
McConnell’s re-election campaign has raised $17.7 million so far this cycle and has $10 million cash on hand as the senator braces for a tough election against Democratic candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes, Kentucky secretary of state, and Tea Party candidate Matt Bevin.
The donations came largely from small donors, the campaign told the Herald-Leader.
“Sen. McConnell enjoys broad support from Kentuckians and Americans from all backgrounds and walks of life who appreciate his hard work and principled conservative leadership,” Jesse Benton, McConnell’s campaign manager, told the Herald-Leader.
