President Barack Obama on Wednesday commented on the confirmation of Richard Cordray as director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau–a nomination that Senate Republicans had stalled for nearly two years–saying he is “proud” that Codray was “finally” confirmed.
“For two years Republicans in the Senate refused to give Rich a simple ‘yes or no’ vote,” Obama said at a White House ceremony.
In 2012, Obama named Cordray as chief of CFPB via a recess appointment and said Wednesday he “made real strides, despite the fact that the agency was hampered by the confirmation process.”
Cordray also spoke briefly, saying his confirmation means “there will be certainty for those markets and the industiees we oversee.”
