President Barack Obama on Thursday invoked the legacies of Martin Luther King, Abraham Lincoln and George Washington in saying leaders should demonstrate “humility” in policy debates during a speech at the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington.
“How we’re going to reduce our deficit, what kind of tax plan we’re going to have… In the midst of all these debates, we must keep that same humility that Dr. King, Lincoln, Washington, all our great leaders understood is at the core,” Obama said, according to a White House pool report.
Obama did not address same-sex marriage or immigration during the 19-minute speech.
