It’s almost zero hour in Iowa and the early primary states and that means campaigns and their allies are getting ready to to bury voters in robo-calls and direct mail. And we need your help to keep us on top of the story.
One county GOP chair in Iowa told TPM this week that they received three automated calls in 40 minutes featuring a recording of an average voter extolling Mitt Romney’s virtues. Newt Gingrich has gone up with his own recorded messages touting his debate performances.
And then there are the attacks: one Iowa gun rights group is up with recorded messages going after Gingrich on Second Amendment issues.
Often these calls and mailers, especially from outside groups, are tougher, more extreme, or just more carefully tailored than other forms of campaign messaging. They’re an important part of the presidential race that often slips through the cracks, so if you’re in an early primary state and you spot something interesting, please pass it on to us. Just e-mail us at talk@talkingpointsmemo.com and we’ll take a look.
