Tim Kaine Out-Raises George Allen

VA Senate candidates Tim Kaine and George Allen

The money is pouring into the Virginia Senate race, to succeed retiring one-term Democratic Sen. Jim Webb. On Tuesday, presumptive Democratic nominee Tim Kaine, a former Virginia governor and ex-DNC chairman, announced that he has raised $1.65 million in the fourth quarter of 2011, and has $3.3 million cash on hand.

This puts Kaine ahead of the likely Republican nominee, former Sen. George Allen, who raised $1.1 million in the quarter, and has $2 million on hand.

The two candidates already met for a very heated debate in December. Even though the general election was then 11 months away, the two jousted as if it were right around the corner, on a variety of topics.

Allen has recently attracted a primary challenger, state Del. Bob Marshall, whose right-wing stances could potentially cause a little trouble for Allen in winning over the Republican base.
