Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) argued that his opponent, Hillary Clinton, was “jumping the gun” by saying she would be the Democratic presidential nominee.
Sanders was asked on ABC News’ “This Week” how he planned to obtain the nomination. Clinton has a total of 2,293 pledged and superdelegates while Sanders has 1,533 pledged and superdelegates, the AP reported. For the nomination, 2,383 are needed.
Clinton has repeatedly said she expects to be the party’s nominee. Sanders noted his wins in West Virginia, Indiana, and Oregon.
“So I think Secretary Clinton is jumping the gun a little bit here,” he said.
Sanders went on to say his campaign has to do “very well” in the remaining nine contests and that it was an “uphill climb.”
“But I think we have a shot to do that. We’re going to fight as hard as we can for every delegate and every vote,” Sanders said.
