Priebus Won’t Repudiate Texas GOP Chief’s Remark On Equal Pay For Women

The chairman of the Republican National Committee on Wednesday declined to repudiate a remark on equal pay made by the executive director of the Texas Republican Party.

Beth Cubriel drew the ire of Democrats on Monday after arguing that, rather than seeking legal recourse on equal pay, women should learn to better negotiate their salaries like their male counterparts.

“Men are better negotiators, and I would encourage women, instead of pursuing the courts for action, to become better negotiators,” she said.

Asked Wednesday by MSNBC’s Chuck Todd to respond, RNC Chair Reince Priebus dismissed the comment made by “one staffer at a state GOP office.”

Priebus instead pointed to a comment Vice President Joe Biden made during the 2012 election, in which he told an audience that the policies of former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney would “put y’all back in chains.”

“One side doesn’t have a monopoly on these kinds of comments,” he added.
