“The Nightly Show” host Larry Wilmore broke out his magic skills on Tuesday night to debunk Fox News’ latest storyline: the war on cops.

One of Fox News’ favorite clips to demonstrate a war on cops came from a protest in Minnesota where protestors chanted, “Pigs in a blanket, fry ’em like bacon.”

“You should never ever imply any kind of violence should be done to cops. Their job is hard enough as it is already,” Wilmore said. “And number two: Please don’t drag bacon into this. Bacon didn’t do anything to anyone.”

Wilmore said the chant was “horrible,” but data showed cops are safer than ever.

While the Black Lives Matter movement may not be perfect, Wilmore urged his viewers to not be tricked by Fox’s misdirection:

So no matter how many times Fox News repeats the words “war on cops”: Remember, it’s not a thing. It’s an illusion. It’s a misdirection intended to weaken a growing civil rights movement. And let me just say as a black man, who comes from a law enforcement family, who is also a magician — I think I cover all the bases here — I very much want cops to stay safe. And you know, alive.

  1. Fox news is the one at war with America and truth.

  2. Fox News is awful! Here are a bunch of clips from CNN to prove it.

Don’t get me wrong – Fox is the ring leader of this nonsense. But this is obviously a media issue, and could have been framed as such if they’re going to use non-Fox sources.

It would have been more effective to just go ahead an show the complete unedited tape…

You know the one showing the cops themselves taking part in the chants and adding their own “pig” references, etc, etc, etc… example: I believe the tape shows the first reference to “bacon” was made by a cop over his car PA system.

  4. An excellent tutorial on how Faux conjures up the wingnut outrage out of nothing.

This is how Fox makes the news they report. They suggest targets for nut cases, and then feign outrage when they get the bloody story they went fishing for in the first place. They did it before with Dr. Tiller.
