NEW YORK — Supporters of Hillary Clinton trickled out of Manhattan’s Jacob Javits Convention Center in tears Tuesday night as electoral returns showed an increasingly grim picture of her presidential prospects.
Stopped by TPM, a family of four, a group of three women, and a young couple all declined to talk, walking out of the building with heads bowed. Several had tears in their eyes.
Clinton’s Election Night bash, held under a glittering glass ceiling, was far larger than the one Trump’s campaign planned at the nearby New York Hilton Midtown hotel. Supporters of the Democratic nominee had lined up since 5 a.m. to secure seats to the victory party.
Yet with networks calling must-win states like Florida and North Carolina for Trump, the room went all but quiet. Many guests left early, conceding a potential loss.
Well, this is fucked. I was not a Clinton supporter in the primaries, but nothing makes me more depressed than a Trump victory. All I can say to my fellow Ds is that tomorrow’s another day, and that you owe it to your country to get up with the conviction that you have to fight the total shit storm that’s coming our way. Anything less than that is a capitulation to a rotten future.
I couldn’t agree more.
However, a close second in the “worst thing” department is political incompetence. Hopefully we can avoid more of that going forward.
Too late for Missouri.
OK just fucking shit. Just change Missouri to Misery. We’ve got Greitens as a newbie Republican Gov., Blunt won’t go away for love or money, we passed photo ID ( and by the way when I showed them my passport they couldn’t find me and had to show my DL), we got a AG whose sole aim is to get rid of Planned Parenthood, and what ever I posted about being positive is crap.
I’m going to bed and read my book on the Roman Empire, I may just skip to the Vandals and Goths sacking Rome.
What did voters think they were doing?
That is a tough question and I don’t feel I can answer it. Maybe - as pundits will surely conclude - they were expressing their true and heartfelt support for a far-right agenda. But maybe it was just an incoherent scream of pain.
But I do have an opinion on what voters did vote for yesterday. They voted for there to be a very conservative Supreme Court for the next generation or two. And they voted to funnel even more of the nations wealth and income to the 1%. And they voted not to do anything about climate change but to just suffer the consequences.
