Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT), the chair of the House Oversight Committee, on Wednesday called on Donald Trump to release his tax returns.
“If you’re going to run and try to become the president of the United States, you’re going to have to open up your kimono and show everything, your tax returns, your medical records,” he said on CNN. “You’re just going to have to do that, it’s too important. So both candidates, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, should show both their medical records and tax returns, absolutely.”
Trump has repeatedly refused to release his tax returns, arguing that he cannot do so because he is under audit. And Eric Trump on Wednesday morning said it would be “foolish” for his father to release his tax returns.
“You would have a bunch of people who know nothing about taxes trying to look through and trying to come up with assumptions on things that they know nothing about,” Eric Trump said on CNBC.
But as Trump declines to release his taxes, his Republican supporters have still been calling on him to do so. Even Roger Stone, a longtime Trump ally, thinks the Republican nominee should release his tax returns “immediately.”
