The EPA has requested 10 security agents to provide a 24/7 security detail for EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt. Some specific threat? No, to handle “continuing activities from the left to foment hatred” and from “hostility within the agency.”

That’s the explanation that the head of the Trump transition at the EPA, Myron Ebell, gave back in February when asked about the need for greater security for the Administrator.

This is part of a pattern. The US Marshals Service is budgeting roughly $1 million a month to provide security for Education Secretary Betsy DeVos. Needless to say, the Secretary of Education has never been seen the target of significant threats. In-house Department of Education security personnel have provided security for Secretaries in the past.

The Department has not explained the rationale for the enhanced security and it’s not clear that it is based on more than the early school visit DeVos made where protestors yelled at her.
