As I said earlier, it really, really pains me to have to argue Corey Lewandowski’s case here. But here goes.

In lots of press reports, emailers, folks on Twitter saying that Lewandowski is now being paid for “strategy consulting” rather than simply a severance. He’s also being paid to his company, Green Monster Consulting, LLC. So basically he’s back on the payroll.

Here’s the key paragraph in Politico’s piece.

POLITICO reported on Tuesday evening that the Trump campaign had paid Lewandowski’s firm $20,000 in August, according to campaign filings, for “strategy consulting.” As The Washington Post pointed out, the description of the payment as “strategy consulting” appeared to contradict CNN’s claim that Lewandowski was being paid by the Trump campaign only for severance.

Sounds bad, right?

Well, this is pretty misleading. What were the payments called in the July FEC Report? Let’s look.

Unless I’m missing something, this is the identical listing as this month. In fact, I’m certain because this is the August FEC Report listing.

These are identical. He’s getting monthly severance payments. I see no reason this is a bigger story today than it was a month ago.

Let me restate: the entire arrangement is sleazy and ill-advised. I’m not defending it at all. But there’s no new information here at all.
