Billionaire Donald Trump is in the lead in Florida by nine percentage points over native son Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), according to a Suffolk/Boston Globe poll released Thursday.

The poll showed support for Trump at 36 percent, with Rubio following at 27 percent. Sen. Ted Cruz stood at 19 percent while Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R) had 10 percent.

This is the first time a Suffolk/Boston Globe poll has been fielded in Florida. But the results are consistent with most polling in the state, which predicts a substantial victory for Trump on Rubio’s home turf. Some polling has indicated that the margin of the victory will be greater, often considerably so.

TPM’s PollTracker Average shows Trump at 39.3 percent in the state, followed by Rubio at 26.4 percent, Cruz at 17.2 percent and Kasich at 9 percent.

The Suffolk/Boston Globe poll was carried out from March 7-9 using live telephone interviews. Pollsters surveyed 500 people likely to vote in the Republican primary, with a margin of error of 4.4 percentage points.
