Former U.S. Sen. Russ Feingold comes out ahead of incumbent Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI), but by very different margins, in two new polls of the U.S. Senate race in Wisconsin.
Feingold holds a solid 13-point lead, 54-41, among likely Wisconsin voters in a Monmouth University poll released Wednesday.
But a poll from Marquette Law School, released the same day, shows the Democratic challenger with a three-point lead, 48-45, among likely voters in the Badger state. Including third party candidates in the Marquette poll, Feingold still leads by three points, 45-42, with Libertarian Phil Anderson following at 6 percent.
In the previous Marquette poll from early August, Feingold lead by 11 points, 53-42. Monmouth has not previously polled on the 2016 Senate race in Wisconsin.
The Monmouth poll, conducted Aug. 27-30, surveyed 404 likely Wisconsin general election voters via telephone, and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.9 percent.
The Marquette poll was conducted Aug. 25-28, surveying 650 likely Wisconsin voters over the phone with a margin of error of plus or minus 5 percent.
TPM’s PollTracker Average for the U.S. Senate race in Wisconsin shows Feingold leading Johnson, 52 to 42.3.
