Hillary Clinton leads by two percentage points among likely voters in closely watched North Carolina, according to the latest Monmouth University poll.

Clinton beats Trump, 44-42, with Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson polling at 7 percent.

Monmouth had not previously polled North Carolina voters about the general election, but a poll released Sunday by Gravis Marketing showed Clinton ahead by one percent, 44-43, among registered voters in the state.

North Carolina has been closely contested in the last two presidential elections. President Obama narrowly won the state in 2008, but lost it to Mitt Romney in 2012. The TPM Electoral Scoreboard rates North Carolina a toss up.

The Monmouth poll was conducted Aug. 20-23 among 401 likely North Carolina voters, and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.9 percent.

TPM’s PollTracker Average for the North Carolina general election shows Clinton leading Trump, 43.9 to 43.1.

  3. Voting third party is risking a Trump victory, which would mean the end of our country and Supreme Court.

    Just don’t vote 3rd party.

  4. …and that’s 7% unaccounted for or undecideds? Lots of these polls show double digit or near double digit “not sure” or “undecideds” even the ones with Stein and Johnson included. After the first debate, we may see the bulk of these break for Hillary when the landslide takes clearer shape.

  5. @inlabsitrust, sadly, I do not share your optimism, my friend. I agree with Reince Pubis, but not his logic. I think half the American electorate is fed up with “establishment”/dumb enough to fall for this bullshit “measured” version of Trump. Until he is not POTUS, and Hillary is, I will work under the assumption that we’re going to have President Orange Asshole.
