WASHINGTON (AP) — House Majority Whip Steve Scalise says he will undergo surgery Wednesday as part of his recovery from last June’s shooting at a baseball practice.

The Louisiana Republican said Tuesday he’s made tremendous progress recovering from the shooting. He didn’t provide details of the surgery, only that it was planned for about a month and is a “continued part of my recovery.”

Scalise says he intends to remain fully engaged in his work as he heals, but gave no specific timeline for his return.

He says, “I look forward to returning to the Capitol as soon as I can within the coming weeks.”

Scalise was struck by a bullet in the hip, shattering bone and damaging internal organs. He often uses a cane when he walks.

What did Republicans learn from this shooting assault? If it’s good enough for a member of Congress, it’s good enough for you too. But the intensive medical recovery treatment is way too good for you peasants.

  2. I’d rather spend my time thinking of these little darlings and their families, who to this day have gotten no justice and no help from lawmakers, while arrogant fuckers like Scalise continue to care more about their NRA rating than the safety and health of America’s children. Yeah, surgery is a bitch but there’s no bringing back those little angels. It still breaks my heart that people like Scalise still rationalize why they won’t do a thing about the scourge of gun violence in this country…even after being shot himself, and those families are still waiting for active measures to be taken.

  4. On the same day Scalise was shot, a guy who’s a proponent of more guns more of the time, this man, my friend Big Mike, a UPS delivery man, and two others were killed in a workplace shooting. Scalise needs to ask their families who are suing three different entities because of the lax security at the UPS facility how they feel about a gun proponent surviving.
