WASHINGTON (AP) — A spokeswoman says Democratic Rep. Steny Hoyer of Maryland is being treated at a Washington hospital for pneumonia but is expected to recover quickly.
Spokeswoman Katie Grant said Wednesday in an emailed statement that the congressman was being treated with antibiotics and resting after being admitted to The George Washington University Hospital a day earlier.
Grant says the 79-year-old Hoyer was diagnosed with pneumococcal pneumonia.
She says Hoyer, the No. 2 House Democrat, looks forward to being back at work “very soon.”
79? Jesus, we need some new blood at the top of the Democratic Party.
I love Steny, but he should take it easy. He could start by resigning his leadership position.
Joe Freakin’ Kennedy III
A normal illness for a 79 year old. Pelosi is 78. Clyburn is 77. This is exactly why the Democratic party needs new younger house leadership. These folks could be disabled by the routine illnesses associated with the aged at any time.
Is anyone willing to tell these senior citizens it is time to call it a career?
I would assume that Sanchez (49) or Lujan (45) would be “next in line,” but I’m also not certain how the Dems decide these things. They definitely need some new faces, though, that’s for sure.
Are there any members of the caucus who seem to be as adept as Pelosi at actually getting things done? Her continued leadership seems to be wholly dependent on her legislative and parliamentary competence, especially when compared to her GOP counterparts.
