After her testimony was delayed for five hours as non-committee member Republicans stormed the secure hearing room, top Pentagon official Laura Cooper finally spoke for over three hours on Wednesday.
According to Politico, Democrats who sat in on the hearing didn’t share details about it, while Trump ally Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC) was quick to say that some aspects of her testimony contradicted that of Ukraine diplomat Bill Taylor. Taylor’s testimony is widely considered damning for the President, as it clearly lays out the quid pro quo he and his allies pushed on Ukraine.
Cooper was the first employee of the Defense Department who testified despite orders to ignore the committees’ subpoena.
The Republican stunt was likely an attempt to change the narrative on the impeachment inquiry, as evidence against Trump stacks up.
“He said the call took place at 11:30AM, she said it took place at 11:45, so clearly this whole investigation is a travesty! It’s a travesty of a mockery of a sham of a mockery of two mockeries of a sham!”
GOP pols have gone into total game theory mode. Winning: or at least holding ground, is everything. They don’t even pretend to care about principles any more.
They never cared about principles. Just protecting their seats and blaming HRC for everything.
What you’re seeing is a country without much of a spiritual grounding (notice I avoided the word, “religion”) trying to come to grips with a moral dilemma. The resulting chaos is disheartening and entirely predictable. We have no guarantee the politics of this will work out well, but, at the very least, the truth has escaped and you can’t stuff it back in the bag, no matter how hard you try.
