“Morning Joe” co-host Mika Brzezinski apologized on Friday morning for her use of a “crass and offensive” word — “butt boy” — to describe Secretary of State Mike Pompeo earlier this week.

“The term is crass and offensive and I apologize to everyone, especially the LGBTQ community and my colleagues for using it,” she said. “It was a mistake. … I am really, really sorry.”

Brzezinski used the term after Pompeo gave an interview to Fox News where he defended the Trump administration’s support of the Saudi crown prince, despite reports that the intelligence community believes the crown prince was involved in the brutal murder of Washington Post writer Jamal Khashoggi.

The administration’s support of the crown prince has received bipartisan condemnation from lawmakers. The Senate unanimously passed a non-binding resolution on Thursday blaming Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman for Khashoggi’s murder.
