SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. (AP) — A second Democratic senator says he’s opposed to the Iran nuclear agreement.

New Jersey’s Bob Menendez on Tuesday said in a speech in his home state that he opposes the deal, which would curb Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for relief from economic sanctions.

The senior member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee joins Sen. Chuck Schumer of New York in rejecting the deal.

Menendez says that he is opposed to the measure because Iran has violated various U.N. Security Council resolutions while advancing its nuclear program.

He says that he is concerned that the agreement doesn’t require Iran to dismantle its nuclear infrastructure.

He says it’s not an issue of whether he supports or opposes President Obama, who has pledged to veto a congressional resolution of disapproval.

  1. So, he’s against an agreement because Iran has in the past violated agreements. Well, I guess that rules out diplomacy, so what’s his plan and does it involve sending his (grand)kids off to fight another war in the middle east?

  2. There’s NO surprise here! Menendez have been a thorn in the side of the Obama Administration, especially since his indictment under federal charges along with one of his political supporters. He’s always been a pro-Israel hawk and beholden to APAC and Prime Minister Netanyahu. He should have explain his reasoning and offer what proposal he has in mind to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.

  3. Oooooo. Big surprise. Senator Bob Menendez (R-AIPAC) is going to vote against the Iran Deal.
Next you will tell me that Water is Wet.
(yes, I KNOW he is a Democrat. That is the joke folks)

  4. We knew all along he would vote against it.
He’s up for re-election in 2018, and I hope this latest investigation of him bears fruit so he can be replaced.
